INSURANCE

Using Insurance for Therapy

Becoming You Therapy accepts select insurance plans. Coverage varies by plan, so your benefits, deductible, copay, coinsurance, and authorization requirements may be different from another client’s—even with the same insurance company.

– HealthPartners

– UHC/UMR

– Medica

– Aetna

– Surest

Insurance acceptance does not guarantee coverage. Clients are encouraged to contact their insurance company directly to confirm behavioral health benefits before beginning therapy.

CHECKING YOUR BENEFITS

Questions to Ask Before Your First Session

Insurance benefits can vary significantly between plans. Before beginning therapy, consider contacting the member services number on the back of your insurance card and asking:

  • Do I have outpatient mental health benefits?
  • What is my deductible, and has it been met?
  • What is my copay or coinsurance for psychotherapy?
  • Is prior authorization required?
  • Are telehealth sessions covered?
  • Is Becoming You Therapy considered in-network for my specific plan?
  • Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?

PRIVATE PAY

Choosing to Pay Privately

Some clients choose to pay privately because they prefer greater privacy, flexibility, or freedom from insurance requirements. When insurance is not billed, your care is not subject to the same insurance requirements regarding medical necessity, diagnosis, or coverage.

If your plan includes out-of-network benefits, you may be eligible for partial reimbursement. Becoming You Therapy can provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance company upon request.

OUT-OF-NETWORK BENEFITS

What If I’m Out of Network?

If Becoming You Therapy is not in-network with your insurance plan, you may still have out-of-network benefits that reimburse a portion of your therapy costs. Coverage varies by plan, so we recommend contacting your insurance company directly to ask about reimbursement for out-of-network mental health services.

  • What percentage of out-of-network therapy is reimbursed?
  • Do I have a separate out-of-network deductible?
  • Has any portion of that deductible already been met?
  • What documentation is required for reimbursement?
  • Are telehealth sessions eligible for out-of-network reimbursement?

YOUR RIGHT TO KNOW

Good Faith Estimates

If you don’t have insurance or choose not to use insurance to pay for your care, federal law generally gives you the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of the expected cost of scheduled services.

RATES & INSURANCE FAQ

Common Questions About Paying for Therapy

Do you accept insurance?

Yes. Becoming You Therapy accepts select insurance plans, including HealthPartners, UnitedHealthcare/UMR, Medica, Aetna, and Surest. Insurance participation and coverage can vary by individual plan, so we recommend confirming your behavioral health benefits directly with your insurance company before beginning therapy.

You are responsible for any deductible, copay, coinsurance, or services not covered by your plan.

How do I know what my therapy sessions will cost?

Your cost depends on whether you are using insurance or paying privately. If you use insurance, your responsibility may include a copay, coinsurance, deductible, or other amount determined by your specific plan. Private-pay rates are listed above on this page. Because insurance benefits vary, we recommend contacting your insurance company to confirm your expected out-of-pocket cost.

What if Becoming You Therapy is out of network with my insurance?

If Becoming You Therapy is out of network with your insurance plan, you may still be able to use out-of-network mental health benefits. Depending on your plan, your insurance company may reimburse you for a portion of the cost after you pay for your session. Contact your insurer to ask about your out-of-network deductible, reimbursement rate, and requirements for submitting claims.

Can I choose private pay even if I have insurance?

Yes. You may choose to pay privately rather than use your insurance benefits. Some clients prefer private pay for greater privacy or flexibility and to avoid insurance requirements related to coverage and medical necessity. If you choose not to use insurance, you are responsible for the full private-pay rate at the time of service.

Do you provide superbills for out-of-network reimbursement?

Yes. Upon request, Becoming You Therapy can provide a superbill that includes the information typically needed to request reimbursement from an insurance plan with out-of-network benefits. A superbill does not guarantee reimbursement, and the amount reimbursed is determined by your insurance company and specific plan.

What happens if my insurance denies a claim?

If your insurance company denies a claim, the reason for the denial will determine the next step. Some claims can be corrected or resubmitted, while others may not be covered under your plan. Becoming You Therapy can address billing information related to the claim, but your insurance company ultimately determines coverage and benefits. Any amount not covered by insurance may become your responsibility according to your financial agreement and practice policies.
