INDIVIDUAL TRAUMA THERAPY

Individual Therapy for Trauma, Relationships & Lasting Emotional Wounds

You may understand what happened. You may even know what you should do differently. But knowing something intellectually doesn’t always change the way your body reacts, the relationships you find yourself in, or the way you feel about yourself.

Individual trauma therapy gives you a space to understand what is keeping you stuck, heal what is still affecting you, and build the skills, boundaries, self-trust, and relationships you want moving forward.

WHEN SOMETHING NEEDS TO CHANGE

Sometimes You Know You’re Struggling Before You Know Why

Maybe you’ve reached a point where you know you don’t want to keep feeling this way — but you’re not entirely sure what needs to change.

You might be functioning on the outside while internally feeling anxious, disconnected, overwhelmed, exhausted, or stuck in patterns you can’t seem to think your way out of.

Or maybe you know exactly what happened and still find yourself wondering why it continues to affect you.

Maybe you’re tired of…

Second-guessing decisions you used to feel confident making.

Knowing a relationship or pattern is unhealthy but struggling to change it.

Feeling responsible for everyone else’s emotions while ignoring your own needs.

Reacting strongly to things that seem small and then judging yourself afterward.

Understanding your past intellectually but still feeling its effects emotionally or physically.

Wondering why you keep ending up in relationships or situations that leave you feeling hurt, confused, or unseen.

Feeling like you’ve spent so much time surviving that you’re no longer sure who you are outside of it.

You Don’t Have to Understand Everything Before Therapy Can Help

Part of therapy is making sense of what you’re experiencing — where it came from, what may be keeping it going, and what could help you begin responding differently.

You don’t have to arrive with the answers. We can start with what you know right now.

WHAT INDIVIDUAL THERAPY LOOKS LIKE

More Than a Place to Talk

Having a space to talk openly matters. But therapy can also help you understand what is happening beneath the surface and begin changing the patterns that keep bringing you back to the same painful places.

Our work is collaborative. I’ll listen, ask questions, help you make connections, teach skills when they’re useful, and gently challenge patterns or beliefs that may no longer be serving you.

Understand What’s Happening

We’ll look at your experiences, emotions, relationships, beliefs, and patterns with curiosity rather than judgment. Understanding why you respond the way you do can replace “What’s wrong with me?” with a clearer understanding of what you learned, experienced, and needed to survive.

Work Through What’s Keeping You Stuck

Depending on your needs and readiness, therapy may involve processing painful experiences, learning to regulate difficult emotions, challenging beliefs shaped by trauma, strengthening boundaries, or practicing new ways of responding when old patterns are triggered.

Build What Comes Next

Healing isn’t only about understanding the past. We’ll also focus on the life you’re building now — stronger self-trust, healthier relationships, clearer boundaries, greater confidence in your decisions, and the ability to respond differently when life gets difficult.

Therapy Should Be Individualized Because You Are

There isn’t a predetermined timeline or identical treatment plan for every client. We’ll consider your history, symptoms, goals, strengths, readiness, and what you want your life to look like as we decide what our work together should focus on.

WHAT WE CAN WORK ON

You Don’t Have to Fit Your Story Into a Single Category

Trauma rarely affects just one part of life. An experience that happened years ago can show up in relationships, boundaries, anxiety, self-worth, trust, decision-making, or the way your body responds when something feels unsafe.

Individual therapy gives us room to look at the whole picture rather than forcing your experiences into one box.

Domestic Violence & Coercive Control

Healing from relationships where fear, control, manipulation, intimidation, or emotional abuse caused you to question your safety, choices, or sense of self.

Sexual Assault & Sexual Trauma

Support for processing sexual trauma, rebuilding safety and trust, navigating triggers, and reconnecting with yourself without being pressured to move faster than you’re ready.

Narcissistic Abuse & Trauma Bonds

Understand confusing relationship dynamics, attachment to someone who hurt you, difficulty leaving or staying away, self-doubt, and the emotional aftermath of manipulation or inconsistency.

PTSD & Complex Trauma

Work through triggers, hypervigilance, anxiety, emotional shutdown, intrusive memories, avoidance, and survival responses that continue even when the original danger has passed.

Relationship & Attachment Wounds

Explore patterns involving fear of abandonment, difficulty trusting, people-pleasing, overfunctioning, unhealthy relationship cycles, or losing yourself while trying to maintain connection.

Faith, Identity & Self-Worth

Make space for questions about identity, worth, forgiveness, boundaries, relationships, purpose, and faith as you begin separating who you are from what happened to you.

Some Experiences May Also Be Appropriate for EMDR Therapy

When painful memories, triggers, beliefs, or body responses continue to feel “stuck,” EMDR may be incorporated into individual therapy when it is clinically appropriate and you feel ready for that work.

THERAPY WITH PURPOSE

Therapy Should Be Going Somewhere

You deserve more than a standing appointment on your calendar. Therapy should be connected to what you want to understand, change, heal, or build in your life.

That doesn’t mean healing follows a perfect timeline. It means we stay intentional about why we’re doing the work and whether it’s helping.

Start With What Matters

We’ll identify what brought you to therapy, what feels most important right now, and what you hope will be different as a result of our work together.

Create a Plan Together

Your treatment plan is built around your individual needs and goals. As we better understand what is contributing to the patterns or symptoms you’re experiencing, we can decide what deserves our attention and which approaches may be most helpful.

Pay Attention to Progress

We’ll regularly check in on what is changing, what still feels stuck, and whether therapy continues to match what you need. When something isn’t helping, we can adjust rather than simply doing more of the same.

The Goal Isn’t to Stay in Therapy Forever

AN INDIVIDUALIZED APPROACH

There’s More Than One Way to Heal

You are more than a diagnosis, and therapy shouldn’t feel like following the same script with every person.

The approaches we use will depend on what you’re experiencing, what you want to change, where you are in the healing process, and what feels appropriate for you. Sometimes the work is about understanding. Sometimes it’s about building skills or creating safety. And sometimes it’s about processing experiences that continue to feel stuck.

Understand the Patterns

We may explore how past experiences shaped beliefs, relationship patterns, emotional responses, and the ways you learned to protect yourself.

May include: CBT, psychoeducation & attachment-focused exploration

Feel Safer in Your Body

When your nervous system is constantly on alert — or shutting down entirely — we can build tools to help you recognize, tolerate, and respond differently to difficult emotions and triggers.

May include: mindfulness, grounding, nervous-system regulation & DBT-informed skills

Process What Still Feels Stuck

When painful memories, triggers, beliefs, or body responses continue to feel present, trauma processing may help reduce the intensity of experiences your brain and body are still responding to.

May include: EMDR therapy & trauma-focused processing

Practice Something Different

Healing also happens in the choices you make now. We may work on boundaries, communication, relationships, problem-solving, self-trust, and new ways of responding when old patterns show up.

May include: solution-focused interventions, skills practice & behavioral change

We Don’t Start With the Technique. We Start With You.

You don’t need to decide whether you need EMDR, CBT, DBT, or any other particular approach before reaching out. That’s something we can determine together based on what you’re experiencing and what you need from therapy.

The method matters. But it should always serve the person — not the other way around.

FAITH & HEALING

Your Faith Can Have a Place in Therapy

For many women, faith isn’t separate from the rest of life. It shapes how you understand yourself, relationships, forgiveness, boundaries, suffering, purpose, and what healing means.

If your Christian faith is important to you, we can intentionally make space for it within individual therapy.

Faith Can Be Integrated Without Being Used Against You

Depending on what is meaningful to you, therapy may include conversations about Scripture, prayer, identity in Christ, forgiveness, discernment, spiritual struggles, or how trauma has affected your relationship with God.

At the same time, faith will never be used to minimize what happened to you, excuse harmful behavior, rush forgiveness, pressure reconciliation, or suggest that stronger faith should make emotional pain disappear.

There Is Room for Both Faith and Honest Healing.

IS INDIVIDUAL THERAPY RIGHT FOR ME?

You Don’t Have to Be in Crisis to Benefit From Therapy

Sometimes people wait until everything feels unmanageable before reaching out. But therapy can also be a place to address patterns, experiences, or concerns that you’re simply ready to understand or change.

Individual therapy may be a good fit if…

✓ Something from your past continues to affect how you feel or respond today.

✓ You’re tired of repeating relationship patterns you understand but struggle to change.

✓ You want stronger boundaries without constantly feeling guilty for having them.

✓ You find yourself second-guessing your feelings, decisions, or perceptions.

✓ Anxiety, triggers, shutdown, or survival responses are interfering with your life.

✓ You want to understand yourself with more compassion and less shame.

✓ You’re ready to work toward healthier relationships and greater self-trust.

✓ You want therapy that has direction while still respecting your pace.

Still Not Sure? That’s What the Consultation Is For.

You don’t need to decide on a treatment approach before reaching out. A consultation gives us a chance to talk briefly about what you’re looking for, answer questions, and determine whether working together feels like a good fit.

You Don’t Have to Keep Figuring This Out on Your Own

You don’t need to have the perfect words or know exactly what kind of therapy you need before reaching out.

We can start with what has been happening, what you want to feel different, and whether individual therapy at Becoming You Therapy feels like the right next step.
